The 40th anniversary of the foundation of the "bier- und burgenstrabe" working group as well as the expansion to thuringen 25 years ago was celebrated at a festive event at the monchshof on thursday.
A big thank you was expressed by chairman erhard hildner to honorary chairman gunter limmer and founding members arno hoffmann, hans passing and wolfgang rang. They received an honorary certificate and a prasentes. The municipalities of the first hour – ludwigsstadt, kronach and kulmbach, pressig and mitwitz as well as weibenbrunn – were also thanked for their cooperation with certificates. Indispensable all these years was also the assistance of the brewery kaiserhof kronach, the gampertbrau weibenbrunn and the kulmbacher brewery AG.
25 years ago, thuringia was a pioneer in this field the towns of bad berka, bad blankenburg, saalfeld and leutenberg as well as the breweries apolda, watzdorf and the burgerliches brewhouse saalfeld.

District administrator klaus peter sollner paid special tribute to the work of those who built up and maintained the bier- und burgstrabe. This vacation route pragmatized the participating counties and towns.
Kulmbach’s mayor stefan schaffranek saw gunter limmer as a tourism visionary who had achieved outstanding things by bringing the working group to life.
"At that time, the local area needed foreign traffic to boost the economy and, in close cooperation with the caterers and breweries, the "bier- und burgenstrabe" was born. The road was rocky, but it was truly worth it", said honorary chairman gunter limmer and thanked also in the name of all distinguished for the experienced honors.
In his speech, erhard hildner reviewed the past four decades. Gunter limmer from kulmbach was the one who came up with the idea for the foundation and gathered representatives of the two counties of kulmbach and kronach around him. Their concerns were represented at trade fairs and promotional events by the tourist information office frankenwald. Weekend offers, beer tastings, sightseeing tours, excursions were the rough chance for hotel and restaurant business. And with the central room agency, a marketing instrument was created that gained significance far beyond bavaria’s borders. With a rough folk festival of 28. June to 1. July 1990, the extension to thuringia was celebrated, followed by the extension to weimar in 1992 and to frankenhausen in 1994. Radio and television reported on the "international beer festival" in 2015.
The anniversary celebration was preceded by the members’ meeting at noon. Managing director barbara hauptmann said that internet visits had increased from 86,000 in 2015 to 110,000 in 2016.
